What is Home Improvement?

Home improvement

Home improvement is the practice of making changes or additions to a person’s home. It includes renovation and remodeling, but also covers maintenance work or other improvements.

In most cases, the term home improvement applies to renovations and upgrades that enhance or modify an existing home interior (such as electrical and plumbing) or exterior (masonry, concrete, siding, roofing). It can also include garden work and garage maintenance/additions.

Some home improvement projects are designed to improve safety in the home, such as a rewiring of a wiring system or a new furnace. Other improvements are geared toward increasing the energy efficiency of the home.

A recent survey found that homeowners are planning to spend an average of $7,746, on home improvement projects over the next two years. Almost half of those who plan to take on home improvements say they’re doing so for personal preference and comfort, while 54% say they’re doing it to make their homes more attractive to potential buyers.

Home improvement is a booming business, but not all companies in the industry are created equal. The most successful ones have a unique selling point that sets them apart from the rest. Some of these qualities include quality service, value-add benefits and customer service.
